There are a number of factors which will determine how long your recovery will be after abdominoplasty. These include your general health at the time of surgery, they extensiveness of your abdominoplasty, and how well you follow Dr. Angelchik’s post-operative instructions.
In general, it is common for your recovery to take anywhere from two to four weeks depending on the type of tummy tuck procedure that was performed. The recovery period for a mini-tummy tuck is considerably faster since the procedure is much less extensive.
You will need to wear a compression garment for several weeks following your abdominoplasty to hold the skin and muscles in place and provide additional support while you heal. Dr. Angelchik will prescribe medication to relieve any discomfort you may feel during the initial stages of your recovery.
Dr. Angelchik generally recommends resuming light exercise about a week after your procedure to facilitate the healing process. At first, it is best to keep your exercise to light walking. You should be able to resume most normal activity after about two weeks, but avoid strenuous activity for approximately six weeks to ensure proper healing. In general, you should be able to return to work within one to two weeks.
Dr. Angelchik will discuss what to expect after your tummy tuck and provide you with detailed instructions to ensure your recovery goes as smoothly as possible. It may take up to three months before you see your final results.

Many women who choose breast augmentation enjoy active lifestyles, and exercise in general is beneficial to your overall health.
However, it’s important to resume physical activity slowly and according to the recommendations of Phoenix plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Angelchik after you have received breast implants.
During the immediate recovery period, you should limit your physical activity. Most patients can resume limited, low-impact exercise such as walking and some types of stretching within a couple days following breast augmentation surgery.
As you heal, you can resume other low-impact, cardio-based exercises. Within a week or two after breast augmentation, walking will remain the best form of exercise, although most women are also able to engage in light cycling or the use of a stationary bike. During this time, you should wear appropriate support garments and avoid activities that involve running, jumping or stress to the arms and pectoral areas, such as swimming.
Around two to three weeks after your breast augmentation surgery, you can begin exercises that target your lower body. Upper body workouts should be postponed until your breast implants have settled and you have healed completely; this is typically around four to six weeks for most women, and Dr. Angelchik will clear you for increased physical activity as you recover.
Although breast implants will not affect your ability to engage in athletics, you may notice some differences in the way you feel as you participate in certain activities, such as running, swimming and tennis. It’s advised to wear a good, supportive sports bra when you exercise after breast augmentation.
Following Dr. Angelchik’s recovery and exercise guidelines will also help ensure that you heal properly while minimizing your risks for side-effects.

An abdominoplasty can be a valuable procedure for patients who have loose skin above the navel after pregnancy or significant weight loss. Often, over-relaxed or stretched abdominal muscles contribute to the skin’s loose appearance. This is especially common after multiple pregnancies.
During a tummy tuck, your excess skin will be removed, and the connective tissue that covers your muscle wall will be tightened to provide you with a flatter, smoother stomach area overall. There are variations of the tummy tuck procedure to address everything from minor to more severe problems, including:
- Mini-abdominoplasty – Aims to tighten only the lower abdominal wall skin.
- Modified abdominoplasty – Repairs either the muscle wall or the abdominal skin.
- Standard abdominoplasty – Tightens all of your abdominal muscles and skin.
- Extended abdominoplasty – Addresses your flanks and sides, along with the abdomen.
- Saldanha Lipoabdominoplasty – Includes liposuction of the abdominal area and less extensive undermining of your skin, creating a more sculpted look in some patients.
Tummy tucks are often combined with other body contouring procedures as part of a mommy makeover.
If you have more questions about tummy tucks, please contact us today to schedule a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Angelchik, MD. Our practice serves patients in the Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Glendale areas of Arizona.

Once you decide to have breast augmentation performed, you will need to make several other decisions about the various implant and placement options available to you. After evaluating your cosmetic goals and current condition, Dr. Angelchik will discuss these options with you and recommend the approach he feels is best. Ultimately, however, the decision will be up to you.
There are two breast implant options available to patients:
- Saline implants – Filled with a salt-water solution, saline implants allow for precise control over the size and volume of your breast enhancement.
- Silicone implants – Praised for their realistic look and feel, silicone implants use a leak-resistant cohesive gel to achieve a natural aesthetic, making them an increasingly popular option among patients.
Depending on which type of implant you choose, one of the following placement options may be better suited to your situation:
- Subpectoral – Involves placing the breast implant beneath your chest muscles for additional coverage and support. Unwanted side effects such as sagging and rippling are significantly minimized with this approach.
- Subglandular – Breast implants are placed above the chest muscles, but beneath your breast tissue. This type of placement allows for a shorter recovery time.
- Dual-plane approach – A compromise between the above two placement methods. Implants are placed underneath the chest muscles in the breast’s upper pole, but above the muscles in the breast’s lower pole.
To learn more about the advantages and disadvantages of the various breast augmentation options available to you, please contact us today to schedule a consultation with experienced Phoenix breast surgeon Dr. Paul Angelchik, MD. We can help you find the right cosmetic solution for your unique needs and circumstances.

Like any surgical procedure, breast augmentation requires a certain amount of downtime for your body to heal and properly recover. Since every person heals differently, the length of any given patient’s recovery time can vary.
Generally speaking, if your job is not physically strenuous, you can expect to return to work after about a week of downtime. More physically demanding activities, like exercise and sports, should be avoided until Dr. Angelchik advises you they are safe. Most patients are able to resume all of their normal activities within a month.
By carefully following the post-operative instructions provided by Dr. Angelchik and attending every scheduled follow-up appointment, you can ensure that any unusual symptoms are quickly addressed, and avoid significant complications that can extend your recovery time.
Even after you are back to your daily life activities, it will take time for post-surgery swelling to completely dissipate. You can expect to see the final results of your breast augmentation after several months, although swelling can last longer for some patients.
If you have further questions about what to expect from breast augmentation, please contact board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Angelchik, MD today to schedule a personal consultation.

If you are considering a breast lift, you probably have legitimate concerns about how long the results from your surgery will last. The longevity of breast lift results typically depends upon a number of different factors, which can vary from patient to patient.
Ultimately, most patients seek out a breast lift because the connective tissues in their breasts have already begun to weaken and stretch, causing breast ptosis (sagging). Pregnancy, aging, and weight loss can all contribute to ptosis, and these things will continue to affect your breasts even after surgery is performed. However, a breast lift can significantly improve the look of your breasts for years, mitigating and interrupting the effects of ptosis by lifting sagging tissues and removing excess skin.
A few of the most significant factors that can affect the longevity of your breast lift results include:
- Your breast size
- Your skin’s elasticity
- Diet and lifestyle (sun exposure, use of a bra, weight gain and loss, etc)
- The techniques used by your plastic surgeon
Women with larger breasts may want to combine their breast lift with a breast reduction to address the excess weight that is causing their breasts to droop. By bringing your breasts back to a more proportionate size and volume, you can improve their overall look while at the same time relieving them of the strain that can compromise your breast lift results.
During a personal consultation, Dr. Angelchik will discuss what to expect from your breast lift surgery and recommend the best treatment approach to achieve the results you are looking for.

When patients are considering any type of plastic surgery procedure, one of their main concerns tends to be scarring. Although liposuction is much less invasive than other cosmetic surgery procedures, it still requires an incision, meaning a scar is unavoidable. However, this does not mean scarring has to be noticeable.
Drawing from many years of experience, Dr. Angelchik works to reduce visible scarring in his patients by strategically choosing incision points and using the careful skill necessary to minimize trauma to your skin. One of the benefits of liposuction is that it requires very small (3–5 millimeter) incisions that produce tiny scars. Every patient’s body heals differently, but in general, most scars from liposuction should fade and virtually disappear over time.
Besides regular scarring, the skin at your incision site can potentially undergo a change in pigmentation called dyschromia. If inflammation occurs, you may notice a dark spot on your skin. This hyper-pigmented mark typically disappears in under six months, although it can last longer in patients with naturally dark skin. In a similar vein, the friction caused by the cannula tool at your incision site can sometimes kill off pigment cells in the tissue immediately surrounding your incision, resulting in a light (hypo-pigmented) spot on your skin.
All of these skin marks can be addressed and minimized to the point where they are not an aesthetic problem. The vast majority of patients who undergo liposuction at Dr. Angelchik’s office enjoy the benefits of their procedure without worrying about or even noticing any of the scarring that might result.
If you have further concerns about liposuction and scarring, please contact our office today to schedule a personal consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Angelchik, MD. Our practice serves patients in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Glendale, Arizona.

Many people mistakenly view liposuction as an alternative to weight loss. It is important to understand that liposuction is not a weight loss surgery like gastric bypass or lap-band surgery; instead, it is a body contouring procedure designed to help healthy individuals shape and tone their bodies in limited ways.
Good liposuction candidates should already be at an evenly-proportioned height and weight. Liposuction is most effective when it is used to eliminate resistant fat deposits that have not responded to diet or exercise. By itself, liposuction is not a good way to lose weight and keep it off. People who are not already committed to regular exercise and a healthy diet will quickly regain any fat lost by liposuction.
In fact, when liposuction is used to remove large amounts of fat, it is not only impractical: it is dangerous. The more fat that is removed during a liposuction procedure, the higher the risk of surgical complications. The amount of fat that can be safely removed will vary from patient to patient. During a personal consultation, Dr. Angelchik will evaluate your candidacy and help you decide if liposuction is the right procedure for you.
If you live in the Glendale, Scottsdale, or Phoenix areas of Arizona, please contact board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Angelchik, MD today to schedule a consultation. Our experienced staff can answer all of your questions and help you meet your cosmetic goals.
